LeBum: Why I Won’t Talk About LeBron Again

Cavs fans, it’s over.

The Heat and LeBron James have won their 2nd-straight title. Lebron is the most dominant player in the league, who happened to shun our beloved city to go ring-chasing. ESPN’s wet dream came true: superstar player fails in Cleveland and goes elsewhere to win multiple titles. Nothing seems to make the national media happier-(mainly ESPN)-than tying a story to the misery of Cleveland.

After the Heat won their title last Thursday night, I turned the channel and tried to move on. Moving on became particularly challenging, as Browns players and media folks, such as Bomani Jones, continually trolled Cleveland fans.

Well, guess what folks? I am done. I am done worrying about LeBron James and I am officially solely focused on the current Cleveland Cavaliers.

I have to come clean.

I thought that after last season’s championship run, I would no longer be bothered with LeBron James. As soon as I saw Indy compete with the Heat, however, I realized how much I still cared about Lebron.

I wanted him to lose in an unhealthy way. I did a pretty solid job of hiding my feelings until I noticed Twitter Thursday night and Friday morning. Obviously, evidenced by the tweets of many Cleveland fans, I was not the only one.

Well, it’s over for me. LeBron isn’t coming back to Cleveland. He loves that we still talk about him and he won’t rule out the possibility of doing so, just so that he stays on our mind. We have to stop giving him and the national media the enjoyment of our butthurt.

My plea to all of you today is to stop tweeting about LeBron. In doing this, we can collectively stop allowing the national media to revel in our sorrow.

The Cavs have the 2013 NBA Draft’s first selection in addition to a variety of assets to build a winner without the King. We have to start focusing on that. My vow to all of you is to no longer mention LeBron James and the city of Cleveland within the same breath. LeBron will be completely separate from the city of Cleveland, at least in my mind.  He isn’t coming back, and I am going to focus on our new superstar, Kyrie Irving, coupled with the the vast young talent this Cavs roster already has and is about to get their hands on.

The bottomline is that Lebron did not think twice about leaving Cleveland. Let’s stop letting him control our fandom. This article will be my last mention of LeBron. I am moving on and I hope you can all join me.
